Dynamin, a rotating motor
Dynamin is a protein which polymerizes in a helical form around membrane tubes. The protein is active and consumes energy by hydrolyzing GTP. Upon GTP hydrolysis, the helix rotates and changes conformation, as sketched on this figure, and this leads to a rupture of the membrane tube.
